Notes from an editor

By Christina Voss

Some sex practices include formal ritual.  I think of high-protocol BDSM and certain approaches to Tantra, but here, we’re looking at Ritual in a much looser sense.  Betony Vernon made an important point, that we’re encouraged to think that if sex isn’t spontaneous, then there’s something wrong.  But that’s not quite right.  Spontaneous sex is just very different, and, arguably, very limiting in its potential. So the recurring theme here, in Ritual, is slowness. Sex that isn’t spontaneous but, rather, nurtured, prolonged, and expanded.

In this issue, we turned to two well-respected experts on sexuality for their insight: Midori and Betony Vernon.  Midori offers her thoughts on the art of seduction, and aural seduction in particular.  Betony offers her perceptive insight into sexual ritual and ceremony, the idea of preparing yourself for sexual experience and taking the time to allow the entire body to be treated as a sexual organ. It’s an approach that requires some forethought and planning, but the rewards are extraordinary.

Multiple orgasms. Extended pleasure.  An enhanced relationship.

Debauchette writes about her rituals of preparation in sex work, and she comes to a conclusion that echoes Betony’s advice. Chelsea writes about the rituals of protection - of safe sex - which she reveals is more complex than a simple slip of the rubber.

We also have a set practical features: a selection of objects that might be useful for a slow, shared experience, an article on how to enjoy your g-spot, and how to have the perfect one-night stand.

We’ve redesigned the template for Chase Lisbon to place more focus on the (hot hot) image, and we’re introducing Noah Kalina as a regular photographer, with semi-daily updates beginning with a series he calls ‘We Had a Moment.’
  • Noah Kalina
Molly Crabapple collaborated with Najva Sol to create some playful images of impossible couture. And Diana Scheunemann has contributed some voyeuristic/exhibitionist play at the beach.

There’s a new regular: Ask Us Anything. Where you can ask Kasia and debauchette anything. Have questions? Send them here: advice@fgtmedia.com.  Kasia and debauchette will give you their thoughts.  If you’d like your question to be answered by someone in particular, just mention this in your note.  Of course, your identity will be protected.

And we’ve received some great photos in response to our new regular, a monthly invitation for your photography and self-portraits.  This month, you’ll have the chance to win Lelo’s new vibrator Ina, courtesy of Babeland.

Last thing: we're been working on speeding the site up. The cover page has been updated to load quickly (at last).  We're constantly working to improve the site.
